Lexington Man Sentenced to 81 Months in South Carolina for Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of South Carolina announced in Columbia on October 20 that Timothy Stedman Sloan, 61, of Lexington, South Carolina, has been sentenced to 81 months in federal prison, nearly seven years, after pleading guilty to possession of child sexual abuse material.
Sloan possessed over 100 images and videos of child sexual abuse material, including images of toddlers and prepubescent minors. He had also joined social media groups where he would discuss grooming and sexually abusing children.
United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis sentenced Sloan to 81 months' imprisonment, to be followed by a 15-year term of court-ordered supervision, along with fines and $25,000 in restitution to the victims in the case. There is no parole in the federal system.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, the Justice Department initiative that marshals federal, state and local resources to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. It was investigated by the FBI Columbia Field Office, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Elle E. Klein prosecuted the case.
