Lincoln Electric Launches XpertLINC Physical SI Platform: Welding Robots Adjust on the Fly Without Programming

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · Technology · GSM News

Lincoln Electric (Nasdaq: LECO), headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, announced on October 20 the launch of XpertLINC, a proprietary physical SI technology platform. The platform integrates vision, coordinated motion, process control and decades of welding expertise in one package, dynamically adjusting a robot's path and welding parameters to adapt on the fly like a human operator, delivering higher productivity and better quality even with inconsistent parts while adhering to customers' process specifications.

According to the company's announcement, traditional robotic solutions often suffer high downtime, excessive scrap, limited flexibility and long changeovers because of challenges with programming, part fit-up and joint geometry. With XpertLINC, the operator shows the cobot the start and end points; the system then scans the part to capture actual joint geometry and assess fit-up conditions, and, leveraging the company's welding experience and any customer-defined Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), sets the coordinated motion and welding parameters to make the part. It adapts dynamically to real-world part variability and can flag out-of-specification parts for review, all without programming or CAD files.

"XpertLINC redefines what is state-of-the-art in the fabrication industry and what manufacturers should now expect from robotic welding systems," said Kevin Whaley, Executive Vice President and President, Global Automation at Lincoln Electric. "XpertLINC solves customers' toughest fabrication challenges including labor availability, productivity and quality with a purpose-built industrial AI-driven platform that not only automates welding intelligence, but also integrates safety, reliability and data segregation into its architecture."

The platform is launching initially on the company's Cooper welding cobots and will expand across its broader range of automated cutting and welding solutions over time. Lincoln Electric will demonstrate XpertLINC at FABTECH 2026, October 21-23, at booth S29000. The company operates 71 manufacturing and automation facilities across 20 countries and serves customers in more than 160 countries.
