Tom Cruise to Receive the 52nd AFI Life Achievement Award at April 2027 Dolby Theatre Gala

The American Film Institute (AFI) announced on October 21 that actor and producer Tom Cruise will receive the 52nd AFI Life Achievement Award at a gala tribute on April 24, 2027, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. AFI describes the award, first presented to John Ford in 1973, as the highest honor for a career in film.
Kathleen Kennedy, chair of AFI's board of trustees, said: "Tom Cruise is a global icon. As an actor and producer, he brings an extraordinary commitment to everything he does. What I especially admire is his deep belief in movies and their ability to bring people together." Cruise, 64, has worked in film for more than four decades; his films have grossed nearly $13 billion worldwide. He is a four-time Academy Award nominee — three acting nominations and one as a producer of Best Picture nominee "Top Gun: Maverick" — and received an honorary Oscar last year. Eddie Murphy was the 2026 honoree.
