Two Naturalized Citizens Stripped of U.S. Citizenship in Denaturalization Judgments

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced two denaturalization cases in which federal courts revoked the U.S. citizenship of two naturalized citizens.
In the first case, Obichere, who naturalized in 2013, was convicted in the Northern District of California in 2015 of making false statements in a passport application. The Justice Department filed its denaturalization complaint on July 30, and on October 13 the court entered judgment revoking his citizenship.
In the second case, Milagros Marileisis Acosta Torres naturalized in 2015 but had taken part, before naturalizing, in a fraud and money-laundering conspiracy involving a tribal casino in Florida. She was convicted in the Southern District of Florida in 2020, sentenced to six months in prison and ordered to pay nearly $150,000 in restitution. On October 14 the court ordered her citizenship revoked.
The department said denaturalization proceedings target individuals who obtained citizenship through fraud or concealment of material facts.
