Iowa Revenue Panel: First-Quarter Receipts Up 6%, Annual Forecast Raised by $60 Million

Iowa's Revenue Estimating Conference has released new figures: state tax receipts grew 6 percent year over year in the first quarter of the fiscal year, and the panel raised its full-year revenue forecast by $60 million.
The three-member conference — Kraig Paulsen, Jennifer Acton and Jeff Plagge — produces the estimate on which the state builds its budget. Democrats countered that despite the upward revision, the state still faces a shortfall of roughly $1.1 billion, and the increase does not change the overall picture.
The revision mainly reflects stronger-than-expected first-quarter collections. The legislature will use the estimate as it takes up budget and tax policy in next year's session. (GSM, based on reporting by Northwest Iowa Now)
