Idaho Health and Welfare Director Juliet Charron to Resign by Year's End After 13 Months, Citing Father's Illness

Idaho's largest state agency is about to change leaders. Department of Health and Welfare Director Juliet Charron will resign by the end of this year, just 13 months into the job. Emily Calihan, a spokesperson for the governor's office, confirmed the news on the afternoon of Oct. 21.
Charron said she is leaving because her father is seriously ill and she needs to return home to care for family. During her tenure she oversaw $186 million in rural health funding; in September, she denied a $1.2 million behavioral health center grant, drawing attention.
Gov. Brad Little issued a statement thanking Charron for her service. The Department of Health and Welfare is Idaho's largest state agency, overseeing Medicaid, public health and social services. The governor's office has not yet named a successor. (GSM, based on reporting by Idaho Education News)
