Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly has released her fiscal 2027 budget proposal, which the governor's office said would mark the eighth consecutive year of fully funding K-12 public education in Kansas.

Major items include $50.6 million in additional special education funding; $2.5 million for reduced-price meals reaching 34,400 students; $2.3 million for the Equus Beds aquifer project; $30.9 million for a mental health hospital; $15 million for children's health insurance; $8.6 million for the literacy blueprint initiative; $12.6 million for disability services; a 2.5 percent raise for state employees; and $26.8 million for a state highway patrol dispatch center.

The proposal now goes to the legislature. The governor's office said the budget fully funds schools while continuing investments in health care, mental health and public safety. (GSM, based on reporting from the Office of the Governor of Kansas)
