North Dakota Seeks Public Comment on Permit for Pig Iron Plant Near Minot: Deadline Nov. 20

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · States · GSM News

North Dakota's Department of Environmental Quality has opened public comment on a permit application for a pig iron plant proposed near Minot, with comments due by Nov. 20. If public interest warrants, a hearing is tentatively planned for Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. at Minot City Hall.

The project would cover 2,400 acres and include a 300-megawatt natural gas power plant. The developer's chief executive, Jim Bougalis, has said the plant would process iron ore into pig iron for the steel industry.

Written comments may be mailed to the Department of Environmental Quality at 4201 Normandy St, Bismarck. The department will decide on the permit after the comment period closes. (GSM, based on reporting by the North Dakota Monitor)
