AG Mike Hilgers Leads 17-State Snap Finance Settlement: Nearly $664 Million in Consumer Relief Nationwide

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · States · GSM News

The office of Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers announced that 17 states have reached a settlement with rent-to-own finance company Snap Finance, providing nearly $664 million in relief to consumers nationwide. Nebraska co-led the multistate action with Iowa.

In Nebraska, 1,349 consumers will have contract balances canceled totaling $2,652,091. The contracts at issue were signed between 2017 and 2022.

The states alleged that Snap Finance's rent-to-own arrangements left consumers owing far more than the purchase price of their merchandise without clear disclosure. The settlement requires the company to cancel eligible consumers' balances and change its business practices. (GSM, based on reporting from the Office of the Nebraska Attorney General)
