Karns High School Football Team Penalized for Recruiting Violations: Barred From This Season's Playoffs

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) has found that the football program at Karns High School in Knox County committed "directed recruiting" violations, placing the school on restrictive probation and barring the team from this season's playoffs.

The investigation was triggered by a voicemail. The association found undue recruiting influence in head coach Lee Warren's program. The school was fined $2,750 in total; next season's offseason workouts are canceled entirely, and the following season's are limited to six days within a 15-day window. For Warren himself, the school may choose between a one-game suspension and a $500 fine.

Karns High School is near Knoxville. The association said the penalties are meant to uphold the integrity of high school recruiting rules. (GSM, based on reporting by USA Today and Knox News)
