Wasatch County Sheriff Jared Rigby Moves to Disqualify Judge in Case Tied to Richins Investigation Fallout

Wasatch County Sheriff Jared Rigby filed a motion on Monday asking Judge Richard Mrazik to recuse himself from Rigby's case. Mrazik previously presided over the high-profile Kouri Richins murder trial.
The motion concerns a letter involving former Summit County detective Eric Mainord. Rigby and former Sheriff Dave Edmunds were both charged this month: Rigby faces a second-degree felony obstruction of justice charge and a class B misdemeanor false written statement charge, in a case tied to Brady-Giglio credibility policies that affect whether officers may testify in court.
Rigby's filing argues that Judge Mrazik encountered the letter in earlier related proceedings and should not continue on the case. The court has not yet ruled on the motion. (GSM, based on reporting by KSL)
