University of North Florida Poll: Florida Governor's and Senate Races Both Tight, Byron Donalds Ahead by Just 2 Points

A statewide poll released Oct. 21 by the University of North Florida's Public Opinion Research Lab (PORL), surveying about 1,471 voters, shows Florida's governor's and U.S. Senate races both tightening. In the Senate race, Republican incumbent Ashley Moody leads Democrat Angie Nixon 49 percent to 45 percent. In the governor's race, Republican Byron Donalds leads Democrat David Jolly 49 percent to 47 percent, within the roughly 3-point margin of error.
Poll director Sean Freeder said both races have narrowed markedly since July, when Donalds led by 5 points and Moody by 8, adding that there is evidence the environment is shifting in Democrats' favor. A Jolly win would make him Florida's first Democratic governor elected since 1994; a Donalds win would make him the fourth Black governor elected in U.S. history, though the poll shows him drawing only about 9 to 10 percent support among Black voters, similar to Moody. Early voting is under way in 35 of Florida's 67 counties, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
