Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · States · GSM News

Illinois announced its 2026 Governor's Blue Ribbon Schools on Oct. 21, honoring 24 schools statewide, including Mahomet-Seymour High School in Mahomet. The district said the school was recognized for outstanding student outcomes achieved through academic excellence or success in closing achievement gaps. Superintendent Kenny Lee and Principal Chad Benedict attended the official announcement by Gov. JB Pritzker.

'Congratulations to the 2026 Governor's Blue Ribbon Schools for showing what's possible when students, educators, families, and communities work together to support children in reaching their full potential,' Pritzker said in a release, adding that rising achievement, graduation rates and proficiency across the state reflect teachers' dedication and the power of sustained investment in public education. The state program is in its second year, created after the federal Blue Ribbon Schools program was discontinued. All honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony at the Governor's Mansion in Springfield next spring.
