Open-Seat Fight in New Hampshire's 1st District: Stefany Shaheen Faces Anthony DiLorenzo

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · States · GSM News

The open-seat race in New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District is in its final two weeks, with Democrat Stefany Shaheen and Republican Anthony DiLorenzo facing off in the Nov. 3 midterm election. Incumbent Rep. Chris Pappas, a Democrat first elected in 2018, is running for the U.S. Senate instead of re-election. The district changed hands five times between 2006 and 2016, alternating between Carol Shea-Porter and Frank Guinta, and has been held by Democrats since 2017. In the 2024 presidential race, Harris carried the district 50.5 percent to 48.5 percent, while Pappas defeated Republican Russell Prescott 54 percent to 45.9 percent.

The National Republican Congressional Committee has targeted the district, and DiLorenzo is in its 'MAGA majority' support program. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has not listed it as a target, but House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called it an extremely important seat, crucial to retaking the House majority. Shaheen, the daughter of Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, is co-founder and president of the nutrition counseling company Good Measures and previously served on the Portsmouth Police Commission (2019-2024) and as a city councilor (2014-2016).
