Vivek Ramaswamy Admits the Controversial Ad Came From His Campaign: About $4 Million Planned as Governor's Race Heats Up

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · States · GSM News

Republican Vivek Ramaswamy told reporters after a town hall in Westerville, Ohio, on the evening of Oct. 20 that a controversial campaign ad featuring the mother of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dr. Amy Acton was produced by his team. According to River News, his campaign plans to spend about $4 million promoting the ad. The ad had earlier been shared on social media by Donald Trump Jr., initially with no disclaimer identifying who paid for or produced it. Acton's brother, Philip Stearnes, criticized the ad for using allegations of childhood sexual abuse involving Acton as a political issue. With less than two weeks to the Nov. 3 election, Ohio's governor's race has grown noticeably more combative.

At the same time, the data center issue has spilled into Ohio's U.S. Senate race. Fox News reported that Democratic candidate Sherrod Brown is distancing himself from data center projects he previously supported; it also reported that Google's political action committee has donated at least $20,000 to Brown and that his wife holds more than $500,000 in mutual funds invested in data-center-related companies. Brown's side has not yet responded in detail.
