Trump Rallies Tonight at Clemson for Sen. Darline Graham: South Carolina Senate Race Tightens

President Trump will speak at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21 at Clemson University's T. Ed Garrison Arena in Pendleton, South Carolina, to rally for Republican Sen. Darline Graham. Graham is the sister of Sen. Lindsey Graham, who died unexpectedly of a heart ailment in July; she took over his seat and, with Trump's endorsement, is running for a full six-year term. She faces Charleston Democrat Annie Andrews, a pediatrician.
According to Reuters, nonpartisan analysts rate the race as likely or leaning Republican, and Trump carried the state by nearly 18 points in 2024, but the contest is far closer than expected, with polls showing the two roughly even. Since Oct. 1, outside Republican groups have spent $9.7 million supporting Graham or attacking Andrews, compared with only $240,000 over the same period in neighboring North Carolina's Senate race. Graham has broken with Trump over Russia sanctions, telling the Associated Press she would choose to pressure Russia to end the war and that she does not trust Putin or Russia. Rep. Nancy Mace said Trump's trip itself shows how close the race is: 'If there's apathy from the base, and they don't show up, Republicans don't win.' Democrats have not won a U.S. Senate election in South Carolina since Fritz Hollings in 1998.
