Jazz Fall 123-103 at Memphis in Season Opener: No. 2 Pick Darryn Peterson Debuts Against No. 3 Pick Cameron Boozer

The Utah Jazz opened the 2026-27 season on Oct. 21 at FedExForum in Memphis, falling 123-103 to the Grizzlies. The headline matchup was the NBA debut of Darryn Peterson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 draft — a guard from Canton, Ohio, by way of Kansas — going head-to-head with Cameron Boozer, taken No. 3 by Memphis. Both rookies started slowly as scorers: Peterson had 7 points at halftime and Boozer 4, though each affected the game in other ways, Peterson as a facilitator and Boozer on the boards.

The game's standout was Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome, who scored 45 points on 17-of-25 shooting and powered Memphis to a 13-point halftime lead. For Utah, Keyonte George and Lauri Markkanen turned in solid performances, but it was not enough on the road. The teams meet twice more this season, including a rematch on Oct. 26 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City.
