Spending in Washington's 3rd District Race Tops $20 Million: The State's Most-Watched House Contest

Total spending in Washington's most-watched congressional race, the 3rd District contest, has surpassed $20 million with two weeks to go, the Washington State Standard reported on Oct. 21. Democratic Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is defending the seat against Republican state Sen. John Braun. Federal Election Commission data show Perez has raised about $6.29 million this cycle and Braun about $2.04 million as of mid-July; a new Trump-aligned super PAC, No Going Back PAC, had put in $1.7 million for Braun by early October, while Democratic-aligned outside groups had spent about $354,000.
An Oregon Public Broadcasting poll by DHM Research, conducted Sept. 17-27 among 543 likely voters, put Braun ahead 46 percent to 44 percent, with a margin of error of 4.2 points; allocating undecided voters' leanings, Braun led 48 percent to 47 percent. The survey found the economy and cost of living are the top concern for voters of both parties, and that independents, 35 percent of the electorate surveyed, are the decisive bloc.
