Wyoming Test Scores Rise Across the Board: Proficiency in All Three Subjects at or Above Pre-Pandemic Levels

The Wyoming Department of Education released the 2025-26 WY-TOPP and WY-ALT assessment results on Oct. 16: student proficiency rose in every subject statewide, up 1.6 points in English language arts (ELA), 4.1 points in mathematics and 1.3 points in science from last year, with all three subjects now at or above pre-pandemic achievement levels. The largest single-year gains were in grade 5 ELA (+3.5 points), grade 6 math (+6.7 points) and grade 10 science (+4.1 points). Over four years, ELA is up 3.7 points overall, math 5.9 points and science 4.2 points, with grade 4 math improving 11.5 points, the most of any grade.
'Three years ago, at this very press conference, I stated we must do better,' said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder. 'And Wyoming, together, we have delivered.' She noted that grades 7 and 8 showed some declines and remain an area for improvement. The department said two consecutive years of gains in elementary math are a principal driver of the statewide progress.
