Joe Manchin Campaigns in Maine for Susan Collins's Reelection: Calls Her the Greatest Senator in America, Rips Chuck Schumer

In Maine, former West Virginia U.S. Senator Joe Manchin appeared in Lewiston on October 21 to campaign alongside Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins, who is seeking reelection, and the two later stumped together at a New Balance plant in Norway. Manchin publicly ripped Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for working against his dear friend Collins, calling him crazy and saying he had told Schumer the same in 2020. Manchin told reporters that the country needs Collins in Washington and Maine needs her extremely in Washington; that voters should be extremely proud of her and that he is proud to call her his friend; and urged them to get out and reelect the greatest senator in the United States of America, Susan Collins. He also said Trump owns this economy and Republicans will have to answer for the state of the economy at the ballot box, and stressed the need for bipartisanship. The two lawmakers previously worked together on bipartisan legislation including the 2021 infrastructure law and the 2022 Electoral Count Act overhaul. Collins faces Democrat Troy Jackson, a former Maine Senate president, in a race viewed as pivotal to determining which party controls the Senate. Manchin left the Democratic Party in 2024 to become an independent and retired from the Senate in 2025.
