Missouri Public Service Commission Approves Ameren Battery Storage and Solar Project Portfolio

The Missouri Public Service Commission announced in Jefferson City on October 21 that it had approved an agreement granting Ameren Missouri's request to build three battery energy storage facilities, two solar generation facilities and a new switching station. The approved projects are the 95-megawatt Castle Bluff storage project in St. Louis County at the retired Meramec coal-fired facility, the 200-megawatt Huck Finn storage project in Audrain County, the 250-megawatt Millcreek storage project in Lincoln County, the 175-megawatt Tom Sawyer solar project in Audrain County and the 225-megawatt Ringer solar project in Stoddard County. A new 161-kilovolt Quinn switching station in Lincoln County will connect the Millcreek project to the transmission system. Signatories to the agreement included Ameren Missouri, the Commission staff and Renew Missouri; the Office of the Public Counsel, which represents the public, was not a signatory but did not object. The Commission said its decision took into account safety and cost considerations that protect Ameren Missouri customers while balancing the interests of landowners near the projects. The agreement also imposes obligations on Ameren Missouri covering fire-safety testing, hazard mitigation plans and quarterly progress reports.
