South Dakota Approves $6.1 Million Reinvestment Payment for 87-Turbine Haakon County Wind Farm

The South Dakota Board of Economic Development on October 21 approved use of the Reinvestment Payment program for a wind power project in Haakon County, granting Philip Wind Partners LLC a reinvestment payment of up to $6.102 million. The project, north of Philip, includes 87 wind turbines along with underground collection and communication systems, a collector substation and an operations and maintenance building.
Construction on the wind farm started earlier this year, and it is expected to begin operation in January 2028. About 150 construction jobs will be created, with eight permanent full-time positions to run the wind farm over its lifetime. The project is expected to generate nearly $80 million for Haakon County landowners and agricultural producers and about $47 million in capacity and production taxes for the county, schools and the state.
