The Utah County Sheriff's Office has released a statement on a disturbance on the night of October 20 at the Utah County Planning Commission meeting in Provo, Utah, after a video of deputies forcing protesters to the floor went viral, Gephardt Daily reported on October 21.

According to the statement, the commission was discussing ordinances concerning data centers when several people became disruptive. Commissioners warned that disruptive persons would be removed and, after a vote, asked that they be removed. One man left on his own accord and was not cited. Deputies asked a woman to leave; she argued with them, and as a deputy took hold of her to remove her, the sheriff's office said she struck a deputy in the groin, while two other people grabbed hold of her to prevent her removal. In the lobby, the woman and a deputy went to the ground. After she stopped resisting and was handcuffed, she said her jaw was hurting; Provo Fire Department EMS checked her and found no emergent or immediate injuries.

The two people who grabbed the woman were released on citations for disrupting a meeting and interference with an arrest. The woman was booked into the Utah County Jail for disrupting a meeting, a class A misdemeanor, and interference with an arresting officer and assault on a police officer, both class B misdemeanors. The sheriff's office said the incident is being reviewed by supervisory personnel, and that after the incident numerous people were able to voice their concerns about data centers to the commission.
