Virginia Voter Registration Deadline This Week, Nearly 800,000 Ballots Already Cast

This week is the deadline for new voters to register to vote in Virginia, although people can still register the same day and cast a provisional ballot all the way up until the polls close on November 3, WHRO Public Media reported on October 21.
Robert Lester of the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy said voters mailing a registration form should note that the only way to get the October 23 date is to take the registration to the U.S. Postal Service counter and ask staff to hand-stamp it with that date. Joan Porte, president of the League of Women Voters of Virginia, said that when registering, voters can take the option of a permanent absentee ballot sent to their address in every election; if they decide not to vote by mail, they can bring the ballot in, and the registrars will know what to do with it.
Almost 800,000 votes have already been cast in this election, almost twice as many early votes as had been cast at this point in the 2022 midterm election.
