Vermont Receives Over $60 Million in Federal Funds for Western Corridor Rail Line

Vermont's congressional delegation announced on October 21 that the state will receive over $60 million in federal funds for its Western Corridor rail line project. The announcement was made by U.S. Senators Bernie Sanders and Peter Welch and U.S. Representative Becca Balint.
According to the Rutland Herald, although the funding is in place, it may be some time before work begins. WAMC reported that the funding will help with about 60 miles of rail and is part of roughly $2.3 billion in CRISI rail grants recently announced by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Railroad Administration, covering 105 projects in 45 states. Further engineering plans and a timetable have not been announced.
