Papua New Guinea: Adventist Church Appoints Pastor Simon Gigliotti as Vice President of the Papua New Guinea Union Mission, Starting January 2027

The Adventist Record, the official publication of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, reported on October 21 that Pastor Simon Gigliotti, president of the church's Northern Australian Conference, has been appointed vice president of the Papua New Guinea Union Mission (PNGUM). The appointment was made by the church's South Pacific Division (SPD) together with the PNGUM executive committee.
PNGUM president Pastor Danny Philip welcomed the appointment, and SPD president Pastor Glenn Townend described it as part of the church's cross-cultural leadership initiative. Gigliotti is the second cross-union appointment under the initiative, following Pastor Clive Tefaatau, who moved to the Trans Pacific Union Mission in April 2026.
Gigliotti began denominational service in 2009 as a chaplain at Riverside Adventist Christian School in Townsville, Australia, and later served in Mackay, the Victorian Conference, and the Greater Sydney Conference before becoming Northern Australian Conference president in September 2023. He will finish in his current role at the end of November and move to Papua New Guinea with his wife, Brittany, and their children, Vienna, Violetta, and James, starting the new position in January 2027.
