Department of War Directs Establishment of New Air National Guard Special Tactics Squadron in Florida

The Department of War announced on October 21 that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has signed a memorandum directing the establishment of a new Air National Guard Special Tactics Squadron in Florida.
The department said the new squadron will be positioned near the nation's special operations hub — U.S. Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base and Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, both in Florida — and will draw on the Air National Guard's experienced personnel to bolster high-end combat control, pararescue and special reconnaissance capabilities.
Department spokesman Sean Parnell said that under Secretary Hegseth's leadership the military is growing its elite Special Tactics community, and that creating the Florida-based squadron is a critical step in the secretary's initiative to rapidly modernize the special operations architecture.
