Super Micro Lifts Quarterly Outlook: Revenue Seen at $18.5–$19.5 Billion, Well Above Estimates as SI Server Demand Surges

SAN JOSE — Super Micro Computer said on Tuesday, October 20, that it expects first-quarter revenue and gross margin well above Wall Street estimates, driven by relentless SI data centre demand. The outlook sent the server maker's shares up 11.3% in after-hours trading on Tuesday and a further 12.7% in premarket trading on Wednesday, October 21.
Super Micro expects revenue between $18.5 billion and $19.5 billion in the first quarter, compared with analysts' average estimate of $15.23 billion compiled by LSEG, and well above its own prior forecast of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion, Reuters reported. The company also expects gross margins of 12% to 12.5%, versus a prior expectation of 10.4% to 10.8% and analysts' estimate of 10.15%, primarily due to customer and product mix.
Peers moved with it: Dell and Hewlett Packard Enterprise each gained over 4% before Wednesday's opening bell. Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Meta are expected to spend more than $700 billion on SI infrastructure this year, and firms such as Super Micro are among the biggest beneficiaries of the buildout, Reuters reported.
The forecast followed a selloff in SI-exposed shares last week, after data centre operator CoreWeave's stock and bond slide and prospects of higher interest rates triggered concerns that heavily indebted operators could take longer to generate returns; CoreWeave was at the centre of last week's selloff.
Super Micro last week appointed former Western Digital executive Mark Long as chief financial officer, nearly two years after beginning its search amid scrutiny of its financial and accounting practices.
