PARIS — Paris St Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the Champions League win over Barcelona, the French club said on Wednesday, October 21, Reuters reported. Kvaratskhelia twisted his knee during PSG's 4-2 win on Tuesday and was helped off the pitch just before the hour mark, with the Georgian winger unable to put any weight on his leg. "Having suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday's match against FC Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery in the coming days," the club said in its medical update. He sustained the injury during a challenge with Xavi Espart and was substituted in the 59th minute, according to the BBC; PSG have not put a timeline on his return.

The 25-year-old Georgia international joined PSG from Napoli in January 2025 and has helped the club win back-to-back Champions League titles; he has featured 11 times for PSG this season.

Meanwhile, forward Ousmane Dembele was forced off in the 19th minute with a left thigh injury, and defender Marquinhos was substituted with a right thigh injury. PSG said both players will remain under treatment for the next few weeks. PSG are top of the Champions League standings with three wins from three games.
