Louisiana Man Convicted on Drug and Gun Charges Indicted Again for Alleged Courthouse Assault on His Own Defense Attorney

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · Justice · GSM News

In Monroe, Louisiana, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced that Sirkeameo Vandrell Johnson, 32, of Monroe, was indicted again on October 21 for an assault allegedly committed inside a federal courthouse during his prior court proceedings. Johnson had previously been convicted by a federal jury of multiple drug trafficking and firearm offenses.

On September 30, following a two-day trial before U.S. Chief District Judge Terry A. Doughty, Johnson was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, distribution of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense. For those crimes he faces a mandatory minimum of at least 15 years and up to life in prison, with sentencing scheduled for January 6, 2027.

The new indictment alleges that on September 30, the same day as his conviction and while still in the federal courthouse, Johnson assaulted the victim, a court-appointed Criminal Justice Act attorney who was representing him, by striking, beating, and wounding him. U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller for the Western District of Louisiana, who made the announcement, said the Sixth Amendment right to counsel requires citizen-attorneys to serve that constitutional function and that their safety while doing so is essential, adding that his office has zero tolerance for any assault inside a federal courthouse.

The case is being investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Casey Stelly, with assistance from Legal Assistant Kimberly Blanchard. The case number is 3:26-cr-00413. An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
