[Video] Education Secretary Linda McMahon Talks Workforce Education at a Las Vegas Community College: America Needs 70,000 New Auto Technicians a Year

U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon delivered remarks on October 21 at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, speaking to more than 50 community college students pursuing automotive technology certificates, along with faculty and staff. The address was part of her "The Next 250: American Education" series and focused on workforce education.
"America needs 70,000 new auto technicians every year. Yet instead of building up the skilled trades, we've spent far too long telling students that the only path to opportunity is a four-year college degree," McMahon said. "Thanks to President Trump, the era of neglecting American workers is over." She added: "You do not need the most elite degree to be successful — you need pathways that deliver real value and real opportunity."
McMahon highlighted federal investments in career education, including Workforce Pell grants for short-term workforce programs and Registered Apprenticeships. "America's next 250 years will not be built by one kind of worker," she said. "They will be built by welders and engineers, teachers and technicians, entrepreneurs and farmers, doctors and mechanics, researchers and tradesmen."
The College of Southern Nevada is one of the state's largest community colleges. McMahon has been touring states with the speech series; the previous stop was in Salt Lake City on October 20. This story includes the official video of the remarks released by the U.S. Department of Education.
