Mexico's President Announces 32 Cancer Centers, One in Every State, Offering Free Comprehensive Treatment Starting Within 30 Days

Mexico City, Mexico — President Claudia Sheinbaum announced at her morning press conference on October 20 that Mexico will open 32 cancer centers, one in each state, providing comprehensive treatment free of charge.
Sheinbaum said cancer care modelled on the La Pastora approach has already saved hundreds of lives, and that the new plan aims for patients to begin treatment within 30 days, shortening the wait between diagnosis and care. The centers, she said, will spare patients in the states from having to travel to the capital for specialist treatment.
The president presented the centers as part of her government's programme to widen public healthcare coverage and bring specialist services to every state, with integrated diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care.
