Forbes Real-Time List: Musk's Fortune Jumps About $88 Billion in a Day, Back Above $1.01 Trillion

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · Finance · GSM News

Elon Musk's estimated net worth jumped by about $88 billion on October 21 to roughly $1.013 trillion, according to Forbes' Real-Time Billionaires list, putting him back above the $1 trillion mark as the world's richest person, ahead of Jeff Bezos at about $378.4 billion. The surge followed SpaceX's strong third-quarter results — revenue of about $14.6 billion, up roughly 161 percent year over year, and net income of $4.4 billion — which sent SpaceX shares sharply higher; Tesla shares also rose more than 3 percent the same day.

In Forbes' breakdown a day earlier, the bulk of Musk's fortune came from SpaceX: about $705.2 billion in shares and $48.8 billion in options, compared with a Tesla stake of about $145.6 billion and $24.0 billion in other private assets, for a total estimate of about $923.7 billion on October 20. His wealth is therefore highly sensitive to the share prices of SpaceX and Tesla, moving by tens of billions of dollars in a single day.

Musk first crossed the $1 trillion threshold in June, when SpaceX went public, becoming the first person to do so on the Forbes list; his fortune has since moved above and below the mark several times, dipping below it again last week as SpaceX shares fell. Forbes' real-time figures are estimates based on holdings and share prices, not cash, and change daily with the markets.
