Ohio Governor Mike DeWine on October 21 signed Executive Order 2026-05D, titled "Use of Dyed Diesel on Public Highways," the governor's office announced by email the same day.

The order comes amid high diesel prices squeezing farm transportation. Earlier in October, Ohio farm groups including the Ohio Farm Bureau wrote to the governor noting a sharp run-up in diesel prices and asking the state to suspend restrictions on using dyed diesel on public roads; Ohio had previously suspended its state diesel tax. At the federal level, the IRS issued IR-2026-125 the same day, granting temporary relief from reporting and recordkeeping requirements for taxable uses of dyed diesel. The order's specific provisions are set out in the text published by the governor's office.
