National Retirement Security Week Runs October 18–24: Created by a U.S. Senate Resolution, the Week Reminds Workers to Review Retirement Savings

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · Promotion · GSM News

October 18–24 is this year's National Retirement Security Week. The observance grew out of a supporting resolution passed by the U.S. Senate and is now held every year during the third week of October, led by organizations including the National Association of Government Defined Contribution Administrators (NAGDCA), with the goal of raising public awareness of retirement savings and planning.

During the week, federal and state retirement plan administrators publish information reminding workers to review their retirement accounts. Federal employees and service members save through the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), while the Social Security Administration's (SSA) my Social Security accounts let workers check their earnings records and estimated future benefits.

National Retirement Security Week is one of several nationwide awareness weeks held each October, running this year alongside National School Bus Safety Week and National Teen Driver Safety Week.
