Follow-Up: GBP 5.6 Million Confiscation Order Against Qian Zhimin Accomplice Fully Recovered in UK

There has been a new asset-recovery development in the UK case of Zhimin Qian. According to a freedom-of-information response from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) obtained by the Daily Mail, the GBP 5,603,305 confiscation order against Hok Seng Ling, a Malaysian national who helped Qian launder money, has been recovered in full, together with GBP 1,990 in interest. Most of the recovered sum came from cryptocurrency seized when Ling was arrested.
Ling, 48, arranged accommodation and assistants for Qian, helped move funds and helped her evade British police, and has been described as Qian's fixer or butler. In November 2025 he pleaded guilty to money-laundering offences at Southwark Crown Court in London and was sentenced to four years and 11 months in prison, after which the court made the confiscation order against him.
The recovery is separate from the dispute over some 61,000 seized Bitcoin. As reported earlier today, London's High Court ruled on October 12 that victims' ownership claims to those coins, now worth about GBP 3.8 billion, must be assessed under Chinese law first. The ruling did not determine final ownership, the victims' side has been preparing an appeal, and further hearings will examine the competing claims.
Between 2014 and 2017, Qian ran an investment fraud in Tianjin under the Lantian Gerui name that affected more than 128,000 investors and involved about GBP 5.5 billion, converting the proceeds into Bitcoin before fleeing to Britain. She pleaded guilty to money laundering in the UK in November 2025 and was sentenced to 11 years and eight months in prison.
