Capitol Development Committee Approves 4-2 Plan to Turn Governor's Mansion Lot Into About 67 Affordable Homes

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · States · GSM News

Colorado's Capital Development Committee voted 4 to 2 on October 20 to approve a public-private redevelopment plan that would convert an underused state-owned parcel beside the Governor's Mansion into about 67 affordable and for-sale homes. The site covers about 0.494 acres next to the mansion, and the plan preserves 28 dedicated parking spaces for the mansion.

Under the proposal, ground rent from the parcel is expected to bring the mansion maintenance fund an estimated $25,000 to $50,000 a year. The committee's authorization moves the state land into a public-private development process, turning an underused parking lot into housing supply in central Denver.

Supporters back adding affordable homes on state land without cutting parking the mansion needs; members voting no raised reservations about project details. The developer selection, design and construction timetable have not yet been announced.
