80-Ton 'Perched Rock' Falls at New Hampshire's Polar Caves on Final Day of Season; No Injuries

An 80-ton boulder known as the "Perched Rock" fell onto a trail at Polar Caves Park in Rumney, New Hampshire, on October 18, the last day of the park's operating season. No one was injured, FOX Weather reported.
The park, open since 1922 and home to nine glacial caves, had just closed for the season when the rock came down. Staff discovered the fall on the trail below the formation.
The park will assess the site during the off-season, including the stability of the remaining rock face, ahead of a planned 2027 reopening. The cause of the fall has not been announced.
