Haaland Tours Albuquerque Child Care Center With Senator Warren as Universal Child Care Becomes Focus of Governor's Race

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · States · GSM News

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Deb Haaland toured the Corazoncitos Felices Academy in Albuquerque on Monday with U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, highlighting New Mexico's universal child care program, KKOB radio reported.

The two visited classrooms, met educators, and discussed widening access for ordinary families. Haaland said her plan would simplify enrollment, lower participation barriers for providers and raise pay for child care workers.

Her Republican opponent, Gregg Hull, argues for adjusting eligibility and cost-sharing for some families — a widening divide between universal coverage and targeted subsidies. Warren traveled to New Mexico to campaign with Haaland as child care costs and the program's future take center stage ahead of the November 3 election.
