Texas Permanently Bans a Fan After a Viral Video Showed Him Confronting Florida Players: Athletic Director Apologizes to the University of Florida

The University of Texas has permanently banned a fan from its football stadium after a viral video showed the man confronting Florida players after Saturday's game, athletic director Chris Del Conte announced on Tuesday, October 20, in his weekly 'Forty Acres Insider' post on the Texas athletics website.

Texas lost 27-24 at home to Florida on Saturday, October 17, at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, the Longhorns' second straight loss. Shortly after the game, a reporter on the field captured a Texas fan who had field access recording himself giving a middle-finger gesture and yelling obscenities at Florida players. The players yelled back as Florida staff members held some of them back to prevent the situation from escalating. The clip went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation.

'We pride ourselves on sportsmanship and treating our opponents with respect. This individual's actions did not reflect those values or meet our standards and will not be tolerated,' Del Conte wrote. 'The matter has been addressed internally, and I want to personally apologize to the University of Florida and its entire football program. Having access to our field comes with a responsibility to represent Texas with class and respect. This individual failed to uphold that responsibility and has been permanently banned from Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.'

It is not the first time Texas has apologized for fan behavior at a home game: in 2024, a controversial pass interference call against Georgia led to fans throwing objects onto the field, endangering players and coaches, before the call was reversed.
