Trump at the White House on Ukraine: Urges Zelenskyy to Make a Deal with Russia

On October 20, speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, President Donald Trump addressed the Russia-Ukraine war and urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to "make a deal" with Russia. "We've given a lot to Ukraine," Trump said. "We've gotten absolutely nothing back except grief, death, tremendous monetary loss." He added: "We want Zelensky to make a deal. He can make a deal."
Trump said Ukraine could have reached a better agreement two years ago and that American taxpayers have grown weary of continued aid. He also floated the idea of a three-way meeting among the United States, Russia, and China that would not include Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Zelenskyy in Oslo. A previously reached energy-infrastructure ceasefire has collapsed; Zelenskyy's side said U.S. missile-warning support has been restored and that he spoke with Secretary of State Marco Rubio for about 45 minutes. Neither side has announced a new timetable for negotiations.
