Late Payments Hit 93% of Hong Kong Businesses in Past Year, Coface Survey Finds

HONG KONG — Some 93 percent of Hong Kong businesses reported delayed payments during the past year, credit insurer Coface said in its APAC Payment Survey 2026, released on October 22. Companies reported an average of 144 days between delivering goods and collecting payment, while overdue periods in the energy, transportation and metals sectors averaged about 80 days. Half of Hong Kong respondents expect payment conditions to deteriorate over the next 12 months. The findings contrast with the city's improving economy — GDP expanded 5.1 percent in the first half of 2026, the fastest half-year growth in almost five years — though Coface said the recovery remains concentrated in financial services and electronics re-exports.
