Cold Front Flooding Kills 10 in Mexico's Veracruz, With Classes Still Suspended in Eight Municipalities

MEXICO CITY — Rain from Cold Front No. 2 has battered the Mexican state of Veracruz for days. State and federal authorities say 45 municipalities have been damaged and 10 people have died; in northern Álamo Temapache, 1,590 homes were flooded. The state government ordered class suspensions that at one point covered 30 municipalities, and by Wednesday, October 21, schools at all levels remained closed in eight southern municipalities, including Catemaco, Las Choapas, Nanchital and San Andrés Tuxtla. A National Emergencies Committee has been installed in Minatitlán, Governor Rocío Nahle García has urged residents of low-lying and riverside areas to move to temporary shelters, and the navy, army and National Guard have joined evacuation and relief work.
