Thursday, October 22, 2026 · World News · GSM News

LISBON — Portugal's annual consumer price inflation accelerated to 3.6 percent in September, the highest level in three years, final data from Statistics Portugal (INE) released on October 13 showed, up from 3.3 percent in August amid higher fuel costs; prices rose 1.2 percent on the month. The statistics agency said the acceleration is mostly explained by fuel prices, with energy prices up more than 15 percent year on year, while core inflation excluding energy and unprocessed food edged up to 2.7 percent. Separate official data showed the unemployment rate held steady at 5.7 percent in August, with 320,600 people unemployed, 2,400 fewer than the previous month.
