National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference Marks 25th Anniversary Summit in Washington

The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) held its 25th Anniversary Summit on October 20 at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., The Christian Post reported on October 21. Among the speakers, Marco Garcia, senior pastor of the multicampus church The Way World Outreach, urged church leaders to build a "discipleship culture," saying good preaching and music are not enough to make disciples.
The NHCLC, headed by Pastor Samuel Rodriguez, is one of the leading Hispanic Christian leadership organizations in the United States. Garcia's church has campuses in Arizona and California in the United States and in Kenya. Citing the Great Commission in Matthew 28, he said the church's assignment had not changed and that the problem was not the harvest but a shortage of workers. "We're not passing on our faith to the next generation, and the reason is we're not discipling. We're just doing church services," he said. "Good preaching is not enough. A great worship team is not enough. We must train our children, the next generation, the disciples, to be disciple makers."
Garcia outlined the discipleship system his church has run for 22 years, including a "Holy Warriors" program whose successive levels teach the foundations of Christian living, help participants break free from their past, and train them to lead small groups. He said the church drew 500 people on its grand opening day and now has 10 campuses with more than 15,000 people attending weekly. He urged the leaders present to start a "discipleship revolution" in their churches, their personal lives, in America and in the world. (GSM, based on reporting by The Christian Post)
