Thursday, October 22, 2026 · States · GSM News

In-person voting for Kentucky's 2026 general election began on October 21 with excused in-person absentee voting. Under the State Board of Elections schedule, it runs October 21, 22, 23, 26, 27 and 28, and is limited to voters with a statutory excuse — including people who will be away from their county on Election Day and during no-excuse early voting, voters with scheduled surgery and their spouses, voters in late pregnancy, those unable to reach a polling place due to age, illness or disability, people working during all voting hours, and election officers.

No-excuse early voting, open to everyone, runs three days, October 29-31. The mail-in absentee application portal closed at 11:59 p.m. on October 20; completed ballots must reach the county clerk by 6 p.m. on Election Day, November 3, and postal officials advise mailing by October 27. Election Day voting is 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voters can check their information at govote.ky.gov.

The marquee race on Kentucky's ballot is the contest for retiring Senator Mitch McConnell's U.S. Senate seat, between Republican Andy Barr and Democrat Charles Booker.
