Massachusetts Expands Pathmaker Workforce Training Across Five Industries

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Healey-Driscoll administration announced on October 21 that applications are open for the expanded Pathmaker workforce training program, now covering five industries: advanced manufacturing, super intelligence, defense, climate technology and life sciences. The program pairs training providers with at least one employer to design courses around real hiring needs, helping residents earn industry-recognized credentials and move into high-paying jobs, many of which do not require a four-year degree.

Pathmaker was created in 2023 by the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center in the life sciences field. Under the expansion, the state Clean Energy Center will run the climate-tech track, MassTech will oversee advanced manufacturing, defense and SI, and the Life Sciences Center continues the life sciences track. Governor Maura Healey said she wants Massachusetts businesses to tap the state's talent and residents to enter the industries shaping the future.

The announcement came during Massachusetts STEM Week, with an event at Middlesex Community College. Community colleges, vocational schools, nonprofits and workforce organizations can apply for funding to start or expand training programs, following more than $24 million in workforce investments Healey announced earlier this year.
