Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine toured Meigs, Gallia and Lawrence counties in southern Ohio on October 20 to celebrate the completion of a set of Ohio River waterfront projects, accompanied by state Development Director Lydia Mihalik, according to reports published October 21.

The three projects, totaling about $18.5 million, were funded through the Wonderful Waterfronts initiative under the Appalachian Community Grant Program. In Pomeroy, Meigs County, the $8.3 million Court Street Commons opened, converting a two-lane road into a pedestrian plaza with a park, seating and a two-tier fountain. In Gallipolis, Gallia County, a $9 million riverfront overhaul added a dock able to berth large vessels and upgraded the riverfront park. South Point in Lawrence County received $1.2 million for a new dock and an accessible walkway linking the parking area to the water.

DeWine said the projects are meant to boost tourism, public river access and local economies. Launched in 2024, Wonderful Waterfronts has awarded $204 million to waterfront projects and is one of three programs in the $500 million Appalachian Community Grant Program created with the state legislature.
