Minnesota: Trump Endorses Demuth for Governor and Schutz for Attorney General

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · States · GSM News

President Donald Trump is endorsing Minnesota Republican gubernatorial candidate Lisa Demuth and attorney general candidate Ron Schutz, Minnesota News Network reported on the morning of October 22. Minnesota's Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party issued a statement on October 21 responding to Trump's endorsement of Demuth, saying Trump had backed the Republican in every race, up and down the ballot, in Minnesota. Election Day is November 3.

In this year's Republican primary, Trump had backed a different candidate. On July 15, he posted on Truth Social giving MyPillow founder Mike Lindell his complete and total endorsement, and on primary day he posted that Lindell deserved a big win in Minnesota. In the August 11 primary, according to Associated Press tallies, then-state House Speaker Demuth defeated Lindell by 43.4% to 32.5%, with Kendall Qualls third at 21.4%, becoming the first Republican woman nominated for governor in Minnesota history.

On November 3, Demuth will face Democratic nominee U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, while Schutz's opponent is Democratic incumbent Attorney General Keith Ellison. Fraud in state government programs is one of the central issues of this year's Minnesota campaigns; Demuth and Klobuchar held their only scheduled televised debate in Rochester on the night of October 21, clashing over fraud, taxes and agriculture.
