North Dakota Hosts Native Legislative Training Day in Bismarck

Native Legislative Training Day 2026 was held on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. in Classrooms A, B and C at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum, 612 East Boulevard Avenue in Bismarck, Burleigh County. Hosted by the North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission and North Dakota Native Vote, the free training opened for check-in at 12:30 p.m., with light refreshments provided and registration required as space was limited.
The training covered how a bill moves through the legislature; finding bills, committee schedules and meeting information; preparing clear, concise testimony and sharing testimony on behalf of others; tracking legislation throughout the session using North Dakota Native Vote's bill-tracking tool; and putting those skills into practice through a mock legislative hearing.
Organizers said the session focused on helping participants understand opportunities to engage on issues affecting Tribal Nations and Native communities, and to give both newcomers and returning participants practical tools for following legislation and sharing their perspectives with lawmakers.
